I Am Ghost – Lovers Requiem
With many critics challenging I am Ghost’’s creativity, I have to say I don’t quite understand what they are saying. Lovers’ Requiem is one of the most creative and epic albums I have heard in a very long time. With an extraordinarily dark, luminous sound that features both a female and male vocalist, Lovers’ Requiem hits many different directions that all stay in the constraints of this album’s main focus. Bass, drums, guitars, vocals and a violin all come together in a very beautiful larger-than-life echo that is perfect for any historical blockbuster soundtrack.
Lovers’ Requiem features many amazing tracks, each remarkable for different reasons. “Of Masques and Martyrs” will have you singing the chorus in your head for weeks, and other songs like the monumental ending track “Beyond the Hourglass” feature an incredible album-ending solo that showcases the best of every instrument on the album in one beautiful culmination. The result is one of the best endings to a song that I’ve heard since Atreyu’’s Lip Gloss and Black.
As lead vocalist Steven Juliano explains the new album, “It’s essentially a rock opera, but for hardcore or goth kids.” Listening to Lovers’ Requiem , this rings true. The main moods that I would associate with this album would be; spooky, epic, elegant and ominous. If you are a fan of hardcore or goth music or you are ready to give either genre a chance, there is no reason for you not to buy this album, it’s done in a very classy way, nothing is overdone, and the outcome is wonderfully dark.
